چکیده

Original scientific paper A GNSS network of 36 points was established in 2006 in the eastern part of the North Anatolian Fault Zone, which is located between Tokat and Erzincan. GNSS measurements were made in 2006 ÷ 2008 in the Kelkit valley and these points’ velocities were calculated. This study compares GNSS velocities estimated with different datum definitions and the effects on fault locking depth and strike-slip rates, which are parameters of elastic rebound theory. These two parameters contain preliminary information on possible earthquakes in the region. An average slip rate of 21 mm/year and a locking depth of 12,72 km are estimated.

Triangulation-to-GPS and GPS-to-GPS geodesy in Trinidad, West Indies: Neotectonics, seismic risk, and geologic implications

We estimated horizontal velocities at 25 sites first surveyed in a 1901–1903 British Ordnance Survey triangulation and then resurveyed with GPS in 1994–1995 to identify Trinidad’s principal active on-land faults, quantify fault-slip-rates, and test for elastic locking. Our best-fit single-fault elastic dislocation model put 12 3 mm/yr of dextral strike-slip on the Central Range Fault (1–2 km lo...

Structural concepts for Soltanieh fault zone (NW Iran)

Active deformation in Alborz range is due to N-S convergence between Arabia and Eurasia. This paper provides geomorphic traces of regional deformation in NW Iran in order to characterize active faulting on major faults. Soltanieh and North Zanjan fault systems are involved in convergence boundary extent between South Caspian Basin and Central Iran. Soltanieh and North Zanjan faults are major re...

3D stochastic rock fracture modeling related to strike-slip faults

Fault zones and fault-related fracture systems control the mechanical behaviors and fluid-flow properties of the Earth’s crust. Furthermore, nowadays, modeling is being increasingly used in order to understand the behavior of rock masses, and to determine their characteristics. In this work, fault zones and fracture patterns are reviewed, and also comprehensive studies are carried out on the fr...

Refinement to the Existing Analytical Methods of Analysis of Buried Pipelines due to Strike-Slip Faulting

Analytical methods presented to analyze the buried steel pipelines at strike-slip fault crossing use the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. The cross-section of a buried pipe that is completely surrounded by soil cannot rotate freely and would not be remained perpendicular to the bending line after deformation. So it would be better to take into consideration a rotation between the cross-section and ...

Slip rates and spatially variable creep on faults of the northern San Andreas system inferred through Bayesian inversion of Global Positioning System data

Fault creep, depending on its rate and spatial extent, is thought to reduce earthquake hazard by releasing tectonic strain aseismically. We use Bayesian inversion and a newly expanded GPS data set to infer the deep slip rates below assigned locking depths on the San Andreas, Maacama, and Bartlett Springs Faults of Northern California and, for the latter two, the spatially variable interseismic ...
